Nasal Septum
Septum
Septoplasty Or Submucous
Resection of the Septum.

A septoplasty is straightening of either
the cartilaginous  or osseous portions
of the septum that lie between the
flaps of the mucous membrane and the
perichondrium. When the nasal
septum is deformed, fractured, or
injured, normal respiratory and nasal
function may be impaired.

Deviations of the septum involving
cartilage, bony parts in the back of the
septum that is called bone spurs, or
both, this may block the meatus and
copress the middles turbinate on that
side of the septum, and causing the
airway to be blocked.
Septal Deviations tend to led to or produce sinus disease
and nasal polyps.

The objective of the septoplasty is to establish and
adequate partition between the left and right nasal
cavities, thereby providing a clear airway through both the
internal and external cavities of the nose.

This procedure will enhance the patients ability to breath
as well as cut down on the chance of disease or nasal
polyps forming in the nose.

Your
septum is a cartilage bony process and can cause
you issues if  not corrected properly if needed.
